House policies

Check-in and checkout

Check-in 3 to 10 p.m., checkout 11 a.m. Arriving late? Call or email ahead and we will send the door code and a bunk map. Arriving early? The porch and the luggage room are yours from 8 a.m.

Quiet hours

Midnight to 8 a.m. The Marigny is loud enough for all of us. After midnight inside the house: whispers, headphones, and the courtyard instead of the parlor.

Guests of guests

Friends are welcome in the common rooms during the day and leave by 10 p.m. Anyone staying overnight needs a booked bed, even trumpet players.

Age, smoking, and pets

Dorms are 18 and over; younger travelers stay in a private room with a parent or guardian. No smoking inside; the porch is the smoking porch, vapes included. No pets. Service animals are always welcome with a heads-up.

Cancellation

Free until 48 hours before arrival. Inside 48 hours, the first night is charged. Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest weeks have a seven-day window.

Length of stay

Fourteen nights per calendar month at most. Longer arrangements exist; ask us directly.

Questions at check-in

Is the Marigny safe to walk at night?

It is a lived-in, well-lit residential neighborhood with foot traffic until the bars close, and the walk to Frenchmen is four minutes on busy streets. Walk with people after midnight, skip the dark shortcuts along the tracks, and keep your phone in your pocket on parade nights. We mark the well-lit routes on your map at check-in.

What is actually included in the rate?

Linens, pillow, blanket, towel, a locker, coffee and chicory all morning, the full kitchen, Wi-Fi, luggage storage, and every house night. Laundry is $4 a load with soap, and the honor-bar beer fridge is the only other extra.

Do you have a women-only dorm?

Yes. One of the two four-bed dorms is women-only, at the same $48 rate. Pick it when booking; if it is full, email us and we will tell you honestly when a bunk opens.

Can I cook? Is dinner really free?

The kitchen has two ranges, a cast-iron collection we are mildly precious about, and labeled shelf and fridge space for every room. Monday red beans is a $5 suggested contribution, not free, and it feeds whoever is in the house at 6 p.m. Nobody counts the jar.

How loud is it, honestly?

Dauphine is residential: birds, neighbors, and the occasional trumpet practice, not Bourbon Street. Frenchmen’s music does not reach us. Light sleepers should ask for the four-bed dorm or the courtyard queen, and take the free earplugs anyway.

Is there parking?

Free, unrestricted street parking on Dauphine and the blocks around it. During Mardi Gras and big second lines, move your car off the parade route or the city will move it for you.

How do festival bookings work?

Festival weeks carry higher rates, four-night minimums, and a seven-day cancellation window, all shown before you pay. Mardi Gras sells out by early January and Jazz Fest by February. If the calendar shows nothing, join the waitlist; cancellations happen every year.

Can I work remotely from the house?

Plenty do. Wi-Fi runs over 300 Mbps, the back parlor stays laptop-quiet on weekdays until 5 p.m., and the porch has outlets. Take video calls after 6 p.m. to the courtyard so the parlor can be a parlor again.

Still wondering?
