A jazz set on a small stage off Frenchmen Street

The week, according to the house.

What happens at Granby House, and where we point you when the sun goes down. The kitchen chalkboard has the day to day; this page has the standing traditions.

Standing weekly rituals.

Free for guests. Neighbors sometimes wander in. That is the point.

The communal kitchen during Monday red beans

Monday · 6 p.m.

Red beans and rice night

A New Orleans tradition older than the house. The pot goes on at noon and dinner is at six. Five dollars in the jar if you can; a vegetarian pot always sits alongside.

Records from the house collection

Wednesday · 7 p.m.

Porch vinyl night

Bring a record or pick one from the house crates, Professor Longhair to Lil Wayne. The turntable lives in the parlor; the volume lives on the porch.

A trumpet player under stage lights

Thursday · 8 p.m.

The Frenchmen walk

A staff member leads whoever is game down the strip: which door has the best set that night, where the cover is worth it, and where it is not. Leaves from the porch.

A second line rolling down a Marigny street

Second line Sundays

When a social aid and pleasure club rolls, we roll with it. Routes go up on the chalkboard. Bring water, cash for the vendors, and shoes you can dance in.

Plan the trip

Where we send you after dark.

No partnerships, no kickbacks. These are the rooms our staff actually stand in.

A late set in a small jazz club

Two blocks · cash cover

The Spotted Cat

Traditional jazz and swing from 4 p.m. until the band quits. Go early, or stand on the sidewalk. Both are correct.

A bar lit low before a show

Three blocks · listening room

d.b.a.

Better sound, actual chairs, touring acts alongside locals. The kitchen board says who is on.

Two musicians on a Marigny sidewalk

Four blocks · seated sets

Snug Harbor

Modern jazz in a proper seated room, three sets a night. The one place on Frenchmen where you stop talking.

Street musicians near the Bywater

Ten minutes · anything goes

The AllWays Lounge

Drag, brass, burlesque, and bands that do not fit anywhere else. No dress code.

After the streetcar stops around midnight, a rideshare home from anywhere in the Quarter runs $8 to $12. Walk Frenchmen in a group.

The chalkboard changes daily. The bed should not wait.

Book your nights, then let the week fill itself in.
