Mara Lin photographs interiors and hospitality. The studio is on Rua 1º de Maio in Alcântara, a ground-floor room with a yellow door and no nameplate. She was born in Macau in 1988, arrived in Lisbon in 2012, assisted for five years — mostly hotels, a few architects — and opened the practice in 2017 because the assists had already become the work.
The cameras are a Sinar F2 and a 35mm body. Lenses stay long enough that a corridor does not become a spectacle. Delivery is a dated folder a web team can open without a call. That is the whole personality of the studio, written once so it does not have to be performed.

- Moves to Lisbon. Portuguese from home, still learning the city’s light.
- Assists on hospitality and architecture jobs. Learns to wait for 7:10 and to leave before check-in.
- Own practice. First paid job is a two-room guesthouse in Santos that no longer exists.
- Studio lease on Rua 1º de Maio 85. Still the same yellow door.
- Tuesday Table and After the Road. First magazine commission that ran eight pages.
- Lumen Stay and Late Water. Booking pages start calling without an art director in the middle.
- Casa Bruma and Rooms at Rest. Aurea Hotels, three properties, one photographer.

The room on Rua 1º de Maio
It is not a showroom. There is a worktable, a viewing box, a fridge for film, and a window that faces the street. Meetings happen here or at the property. The tram 15 stop is Calvário; the walk is four minutes. Ring once. If nobody answers she is already on a job — write instead.
