Notes

Studio notes, not a blog.

Two pieces written for the people who receive the folder: web teams, art directors, and the hotel manager who will be asked which still is the first screen. Dates are when they were filed in the studio. They are not essays about light in the abstract. They are the emails I used to type twice a month, kept here so I can send a URL instead of a paste.

How these are filed

Notes are written when the same question arrives twice. The first-screen note exists because a WordPress person at Lumen Stay cropped a 4:5 from a 16:9 and lost the window. The handoff note exists because a Drive dump is not a delivery. Neither piece is marketing. Both are the text I used to paste into emails, cleaned up so I can point at a URL.

Dates are studio dates, not publication dates. There is no CMS calendar. If a third note is written — likely on assistants, or on what “natural light” does not mean in a basement dining room — it will sit in this list with a day stamp. There is no newsletter and no comment field.

Web teams working on Casa Bruma, Lumen Stay, or a new hospitality job should read both notes before they open the folder. Architects usually only need the handoff note. Magazines already have their own intake; Clara Mendes at Atlantic Still still asked for the colour profile on the delivery note, which is why that sentence is in the README.

For a date, use the contact page or write [email protected]. Do not use the notes as a brief. A brief needs the property, the week, and where the pictures will live.

Assistants: when a job is large enough to need one, the rate is €280/day and is on the estimate. The notes do not cover how I work with an assistant; that is a conversation on the scout. Film vs digital is also on the estimate, not in these pages. Casa Bruma is scanned Portra. Lumen Stay is a digital back because the launch was ten days out. You do not pick a look from a dropdown on the contact form.

If you are quoting these notes in a deck for a hotel board, please date them. The crop ratios will still be true in 2027. The fee lines will not — those live on commissions and change when the year does.

Printed copies of both notes go in the physical folder when a client asks for a hard drive instead of a link. The URLs on this site are the canonical versions. If a sentence here disagrees with a README from 2024, the README that travelled with that job wins for that job; the notes describe what I do from 2026 onward.

Hours for questions about a live folder: Monday–Thursday 10:00–18:00, Friday 10:00–16:00, [email protected]. If the launch is this weekend, the extra hour is €180 and the answer still goes through email, not Instagram. That sentence is also in the handoff note. It is here because people skip the note. The first-screen note is dated 12 March 2026; the handoff note is 28 January 2026. Both were filed in Alcântara, not written for a magazine. They replace the old paste I used to send from Gmail, which always went stale the week someone forwarded it without the date. Keep the URL; do not screenshot the page into a PDF that nobody updates. A PDF of a note is how a 2024 crop ratio ends up in a 2026 launch.
