How to actually arrive
The Historic Properties public parkade is off Upper Water, a four-minute walk if you get a stall, twenty if it is July. We do not valet. Street parking is metered and unkind after 18:00. Aisha’s Google note is still the honest one: take the Dartmouth ferry and you are six minutes from the door.
From the ferry terminal, walk north along the harbour, then up to Upper Water at the Properties. Do not follow the boardwalk all the way to the casino and double back — that is how people miss the awning. Taxis and Ubers can stop on Upper Water; the lane behind the warehouse is for deliveries and the private-room lift.
Dock Room is step-free from the street. Salt is three steps down with no lift. Private dining uses the warehouse lift from the lane — tell Sable when you book so someone is there to open it. Washrooms are on the Dock level.

Parking, dress, and the things people get wrong
Historic Properties parkade: enter from Upper Water, keep the ticket, we do not validate. In July it fills by 17:30. The ferry from Alderney Landing is still the least stupid way from Dartmouth — six minutes on foot once you are on this side. Transit: routes that stop on Lower Water still leave you a walk up the hill; budget it.
Dress is smart casual at dinner. Collared shirts are fine; team jerseys and shorts are not, after 17:00. Brunch is looser. Coats go on the rack by Dock, not on the back of a window chair. We are not a kids’ restaurant after 19:00; 17:00 and Sunday brunch are the seatings that work with a high chair.
Lost-and-found lives behind the bar for two weeks. If you left a scarf in Salt, call the floor — do not email a photograph of a scarf. Gift certificates are sold at the host stand in $50 and $100; they do not expire in the calendar year we printed on them. We do not take reservations for the boardwalk picnic tables. Those are not ours.
Suppliers: fish through the usual Halifax boats, oysters from the Island wholesaler we have used since 2018, bread from Agricola, cider from the Valley. Cold emails for “innovative plant-based seafood” go in the same pile as the sparklers.
Private dining questions belong on this form or at [email protected] — not Instagram DMs. Include the date, the headcount, and whether anyone cannot eat shellfish. The $1,200 minimum is food and beverage before tax; wine counts, corkage does not fill it by itself. We will not hold a Friday in December without a deposit.
If you are lost: navy awning, the words HARBOR TABLE over HALIFAX, 1869 on the lintel. The neighbouring shops still sell tourist rope. We do not. Come up from the water, not along it, and look for the navy paint rather than a souvenir wheel.
Accessibility recap: Dock is flush with Upper Water. Salt is three steps, no ramp. Private is the lift from the lane — someone has to unlock it, so write ahead. Washrooms are on the Dock level with one larger stall. Service animals are fine; emotional-support paperwork is not a seat at 19:00 on Friday. We will read a dietary note. We will not rebuild the menu around a preference for “nothing fishy.” If you arrive by wheelchair, book Dock and tell the floor — we will not put you on the Salt stairs and call it hospitality.
